Core Capabilities
What We Do
EPM Design & Simulation
Custom electropermanent magnet design for your specific application, optimized through finite element analysis and proprietary ML optimization algorithms, then validated against real-world operating conditions.
- Magnetic circuit design optimized for force, size, and weight
- FEA simulation across multiple computational electromagnetics platforms
- Proprietary ML optimization algorithms — designing to exactly your requirements
- Magnet material selection (NdFeB, AlNiCo, FeCrCo) and grade optimization
- Pole piece geometry and return path design
- Multi-pole and array configurations
- Substrate thickness, coating, and air gap modeling
- Thermal, structural, and demagnetization analysis
Custom Driver Electronics
We design purpose-built EPM driver boards tailored to your magnet, power budget, and system architecture — with whatever communication protocol your application requires.
- Precision power stage with controlled pulse energy delivery
- Single EPM per board or multi-channel drivers for EPM arrays
- Sequenced switching for controlled engagement/release or parallel activation for simultaneous operation
Protocols
- Simple digital toggle (GPIO / discrete wires)
- RS-485 / RS-232 serial communication
- USB (CDC, HID, or custom protocol)
- CAN bus (CANopen, custom profiles)
- Bluetooth (BLE) and Wi-Fi (MQTT, TCP/UDP, HTTP)
- ZigBee, LoRa, and other RF protocols for wireless control
- GPIB (IEEE 488) for lab and test environments
Features
- Current sensing, state verification, and thermal protection
- Custom firmware for application-specific control logic
Qualification
- Driver electronics qualified to automotive (IATF 16949), military (MIL-STD), aerospace, and other industry standards
- In-house qualification capability or collaboration with your preferred test houses for application-specific certification (space qualification, DO-160 for aviation, etc.)
Feasibility & Consulting
Not sure if EPMs are the right solution? We help you evaluate the technology against your requirements before committing to full development.
- Application requirements analysis
- Force and holding capacity estimation
- Trade-off assessment vs. electromagnets and permanent magnets
- Preliminary cost, weight, and timeline scoping
- Technical risk identification
- Design reviews and second opinions on existing EPM designs
Prototyping & Testing
Rapid development of functional EPM prototypes with rigorous characterization to validate performance under your actual operating conditions.
- In-house prototype fabrication
- Force measurement across air gaps, coatings, and substrates
- Switching reliability and endurance cycle testing
- Environmental and temperature characterization
- Design iteration based on measured results vs. simulation
Production — Low to High Volume
We take EPM designs from prototype to full production. Manufacturing in the USA or Asia depending on client requirements, volume, and cost targets.
- Low volume (10s–100s): ideal for defense, aerospace, specialty
- Medium volume (100s–10,000s): industrial, robotics, OEM
- High volume (10,000s+): consumer, automotive, mass production
- USA-based production for ITAR, domestic preference, or fast iteration*
- Asia-based production for cost-optimized high-volume runs
- Co-located production at your facility — we set up the process on-site
- Magnetization fixture and tooling design
- Quality control, inspection procedures, and acceptance testing
* Note: Rare earth elements (particularly NdFeB) are primarily sourced from Asia, with China processing the majority of global supply. A small number of other nations have processing capability. We work within customer sourcing requirements but note that practical alternatives to Asian rare earth supply remain limited worldwide.
System Integration
Full support for integrating EPM subsystems — magnets, drivers, and firmware — into your larger product architecture.
- Mechanical mounting and interface design
- Electrical integration with host controllers and power systems
- Communication protocol selection and implementation
- Safety interlock and monitoring system design
- Documentation, training, and ongoing technical support
Engagement
Flexible Engagement Models
Turn-Key
We handle everything — design, prototype, qualify, produce, and deliver finished EPM systems to your specifications. You define the requirements; we deliver the hardware.
Design & License
We design the EPM system, produce and validate prototypes, then license the design and manufacturing package to you for in-house or third-party production.
Embedded & Co-Located
Ongoing technical partnership embedded in your development cycle, including the option to co-locate production at your facility. Suited for organizations building EPM technology into core products.
Advisory & Consulting
For teams with in-house capability who need expert guidance at key decision points — design reviews, trade-off analysis, troubleshooting, or second opinions on existing EPM designs.
We work with clients across defense, aerospace, automotive, and emerging technology sectors under strict confidentiality. All engagements are covered by mutual NDAs, and we maintain rigorous information barriers between client programs. Our track record with high-profile organizations speaks to our discretion and professionalism.
